What forum software is this running off?
  • I'm rather interested since the mobile device layout looks very professional whereas my current forum domain (Zetaboards) lacks a lot of updates to keep up with current trends
  • Vanilla - link at the footer. The mobile theme is either included or available as a theme download - although Dave may have tweaked it slightly.
  • Looks like it costs money - I'm not interested anymore :P
  • Don't think so - sure it's a free open source one
  • yup, its totally free ;) and matt made all the forum tweaks, its his baby :)
  • Is it possible to adjust the size of the avatars & still have the ability to edit posts after a certain period of time as well as converting from Zetaboards>Vanilla without a loss of data? Also can you have a portal page?

I'm slightly worried that it may be too simplified & I might be better off with phpbb
  • You might be - the mods for longer runnin forums like phpbb or even smf (which we used to have here) might be more comprehensive.

Re sizing n stuff that's probably settings or CSS. I can check the main admin if u like?
  • Yeah I think I'd be leaning towards phpbb. Thanks anyway :)
  • When we were switching to this forum software, we were running SMF, which I seem to recall was an absolute ball-ache to export to a new forums. @Dave had the tough task of importing SMF into phpBB and then from phpBB to Vanilla.

After we got all the data sorted, it was okay from there. I think we lost a few fields in transition - like people's Xbox Live accounts - the non-standard installation fields.

Don't think you can have a portal page with Vanilla though. It is all open source so maybe you can tweak it. We've had the login on the frontpage of Gamestyle for the forums and at one point we were looking into using the forum software to run a comments system on the site. It's all do-able with some custom tweaking.

I like Vanilla. It's not the most developed software - I believe it's still quite a small community - but it's different to a standard forum and works reasonably well.
