iPhone 4S vs Samsung Galaxy Note
-
With the announcement made for both coming out at roughly the same time I'm wondering if Apple should be worried. Seems like quite a few users are now selling their iPhones to get the Galaxy because bigger screen = better and thanks to games & photography getting more interesting there's a demand for it. I must admit that Apple's decision to avoid this is a bit worrying and watching the Samsung Galaxy vids makes me want one (though sliding to the Galaxy II, not the Note as I don't think I'd be able to walk with a screen that size in my pocket :PAnyone moving onto Samsung products lately?

Does look nice. I think you are right, Samsung are the only one's who tempt me away slightly from Apple.

I'm not interested in apps or following the herd with an iPhone. I don't rate Samsung's quality but that's just my own personal choice. I do like a good camera on a phone so the N8 does fine by me.

I'm interested. I have an iPhone 3GS but I only have that because it was the cheapest smartphone deal available at the time. My contract runs out next feb so I'll be in the market and the only reason I'm leaning towards getting the 4...whatever it's being called, is bacsue of all the apps I already have (to be fair, not many, but I'm lazy) and also all the podcasts I listen to through iTunes. If there's a way to port them across to either a HTC or Samsung or something else I'd probably jump across.

If there was a way to have iTunes running on Android I'd probably do it. I've invested way too much money into apps - more than "around ~$10"The Samsung Galaxy II is pretty damn cheap too, nearly half the price of the iPhone 4 if you look at the right places

It's funny how phones used to brag about getting smaller and smaller - now they all seem to want to get bigger!
I have the Galaxy S2. I was dithering over getting this or waiting for whatever Apple brought out, but this was cheaper (well, on contract) than the current iPhone and I didn't really want to wait or get the old one and then feel like I should have waited. As it happens, I prefer it anyway! It's extremely quick, bright, easy to use and Android seems to have all the app bases covered. It also outspecced the iPhone 4 and looks like it still outspecs the iPhone 4S (1.2GHz dual core vs. 1GHz dual core, 1GB RAM) and it's only really the screen resolution that lets it down, but the difference is barely noticeable.
For what it's worth, I have an iPod Touch (4th gen) anyway, so I get the best of both worlds.

If it weren't for games & video content & internet we wouldn't need a bigger screen :P But nowadays people prefer an all-in-one device so they don't need to carry a laptop & a DS/PSPAlso I sold my iPod Touch 4G because I wanted to get rid of carrying 2 devices

Of a choice between an iPhone and Android, I'd go with Android each time. I used to own a 1st Gen Android phone and loved it. Seeing recent Android phones make me think that I'm missing out, somewhat.
But, in saying that, I'm perfectly happy with my Samsung Omnia 7 (Windows Phone). When I get the Mango update, which fixes pretty much all the 'niggles' I have with the OS, there'll be no looking back. -
I didn't really like the stuff I tried with Android. Probably due to the 2.7" Huawei screen I had to work with that had a very low resolution - like 320x180 or something (impossible to read for many things) and the Android app page felt very cramped & hard to navigate
Also the one I had was untouched bare bones software so there was no fancy integration & the phone vibrated everytime I unlocked it (couldn't be turned off). And some of the apps I downloaded (like Go Contacts & Go SMS) literally had an update nearly every single day
I'd say the experience would've been a lot better with a bigger & high res screen and some better software as well as the right apps -
i love iOS by the fact that is just works. iO5 fixies my biggest gripe with the new notifications. Other than that, im not a fan of androids web browser - it seems clunky to me compared to mobile safari.

Think I might get the iPhone 4S. Whilst having a bigger screen is nice & everything I just don't need it & portability is always a concern. If something feels too big in my pocket I'd leave it at home, if I had meetings to go to & needed to take down notes/draw stuff then I'd go with the SamsungWhilst considering a standard iPhone 4 I think "but for an extra $200 I could get a much better camera with IS & better reception & more futureproof for upcoming games & SIRI might come in handy for something". Obviously if I already had an iPhone 4 I'd probably wouldn't bother
