Game discussion
  • For stuff that doesn't fit in the "games you purchased" or "games you started" threads whether it be your opinions on a game or what you're currently playing or games where you cbf making a thread just to say 1 thing about it :P

I watched the Dead Island video review and I must say I'm terribly disappointed in it. From their first teaser (which I watched 10 times) I expected a zombie game but backed up by an excellent story and a new twist on the whole zombie perspective. Instead its just another hack & slash system, cliche characters with stupid dialogue and repetitive gameplay that's only fun if you're planning to do multiplayer. This makes it a BIG pass for me and the only game I'm looking forward to this year is Batman, making it a very dull end for 2011
  • I watched half of that trailer then stopped it when I thought I they going for shock factor with the zombie child.  Looks like another style over substance game.

  • The trailer isn't related to the game in any way other than "they hired some people to make a CGI trailer".
  • I know it wasn't supposed to be in-game or anything like that but it did mislead people
  • I'm playing through borderlands at the moment and love it - mindless fps action mixed with wow-like mission structure. I've already sunk over 20 hours into it. Result was, I got it for a fiver in a steam sale. Also got metro2033 which I haven't even touched cos of borderlands! Not long now for all the new releases though :-)
  • Is that the first time you've played it tubs? Its an awesome game the first time around but on a 2nd runthrough, not so much as you notice the limitations & repetitive nature :P
  • Yes it is - not something i was too fussed about on launch but when it turned up on steam I took a punt on it, glad I did. As I'm playing I have thought I couldn't come back to it - lots of grinding which I dont mind as it's my first play through. Borderlands 2 should be a laugh :-)
  • Been meaning to check out metro2033 sometime!
  • Been playing through RE: Director's Cut which was free on the PSN+ store (RRP $16, ripoff!)

I'm getting much further than I did when the game first came out :P Was always too scared to play it so I let my brother play it instead

I'm nearly up to the snake, just got to find the right key first for the door, there's so much back/forth going from the storeroom to the objective. Getting pretty sick of it, wish I could also save as many times as I want as there's so many cheap ways to die thanks to a lack of herbs. At least the DC has auto-aim!
  • Bought NFS Hot Pursuit on Steam for $6. Won't let me login to the EA account though, just comes up with error messages everywhere, stupid thing!

I originally had this game on PS3 but then sold it as it really wasn't worth the full pricetag & it lacked depth. At least it supports the 360 controller on the PC otherwise I wouldn't have bothered
  • Despite my girly attitude towards scary games I'm tempted by Dead Island. I should hold off though, BF3 and TOR aren't that far off and I wont finish DI before then.
  • I've given up on Bioshock. It froze/crashed and hadn't autosaved for about an hour and I realised I had no desire to redo the same bit again, which is a fair sign that I wasn't enjoying it.

Could someone tell me what happens in the plot? Spoiler-tag if necessary.

  • I never finished Bioshock either. The PC version is riddled with game crashing bugs despite me trying it on 2 machines, even when I somehow managed to pass 1 bit it crashes again when I'm right near the end & corrupted my save files.
  • TBH...I tried playing through it and found it to be a bit style over substance.  The environments and atmosphere are very good, but the gun play was a bit tiresome for me.

Maybe I didn't give it enough time, but it just didn't grab me at all.

  • I liked it but when I thought the game was about to end it just kept on going which really annoyed me :P
  • I just seemed to be going on endless fetch quests...
