Marvel characters, extra peripherals, creativity. THQ could well be onto a winner.
Players will use the uDraw tablet to help their favourite Marvel heroes defeat the evil Dr Doom. Characters such as Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Wolverine and more will be available for players to control and enjoy.
Using new peripherals isn't a new thing, but the uDraw tablet is a new way of controlling a game and one that could be used beyond this single game. However the idea here is that players can use the tablet to draw the trajectory of Captain America's shield, draw new environmental pieces or control special powers such as a 'Zipper Rift'.
It allows some of the feature previously exclusive to the Nintendo DS to the home console and all before the Wii U comes out. Often new 'gimmicks' like this can fall short of expectation, but so far the package that is coming with Marvel Super Hero Squad should provide a very entertaining way to get this device into homes.
The action will be set around six comic book issues. One for each of the main characters as they battle to defeat Dr Doom. New to the game is Squirrel Girl, who stars in her first ever game and brings her powers of super strength, claws, her tail and uniquely her full army of squirrels. Yes! Squirrels.
The game will use a cel-shaded art style that brings the comic books to life right on the screen. Players will find themselves playing through such environments as Baxter Builder, The Helicarrier, The Vault and Sanctum, as all these places make the the amazing Super Hero City.
This is the sort of game that should really appeal to kids first and foremost, however it doesn't look like one that experienced gamers will want to avoid, it brings in a few new ideas and at the very least should intrigue everyone to trying a new tech for consoles.
The uDraw device is making a debut on the Xbox 360 and PS3 after previously coming out on the Wii. Marvel Super Hero Squad: Comic Combat comes out for 360, PS3 and Wii on 15th November 2011.
