I'm having to post this in Firefox because Gamestyle doesn't seem to like Opera any more. The board loads nice and fast in Fox but deathly slow in Opera. After I've loaded it in Opera the whole thing slows right down - all other pages load really slowly, and even the options menus come up slowly. Opera runs just fine until I go to GS on it, then I have to close it and re-open it to get it back to normal.

It started after I went to that Rotten Tomatoes link in Sprite's post, but through trial and error I've discovered that it is GS and not RT that causes the slowdown.

I've tried all the obvious stuff - clearing cookies and cache, and running Spybot and Adaware, and rebooting my machine.

Hmm, how rare. I'm not having any problems personally and am using Opera.

*waits to hear off others*

It's true, Matt. I don't have it all the time, though. Just occasionally it slows down, and I think it's the sig banners personally.

In firefox there are settings you can change and one of them is the prefectching or data, and/or simultaneous connections, so u can download more than one part of a webpage at a time, maybe there are similar settings for Opera that might help you, Bob of Toddsville?

I don't think it's the sig pics - I'm on a 2 meg connection and the slowdown's only started recently.

I think there are, Tubs. I've got total connections set to maximum and max connections to a server set to 64 (max is 128). Changing them both to maximum has no perceivable effect.

A friend and I were joking that it's because Microsoft have bought Opera, but of course a corporate takeover can't magically affect the programs on my computer.

Bloody hell. FF is acting up too for me. Taking ages to open a thread.

Hmm, ok. I've checked the sever and there's nothing wrong there. Or at least, doesn't seem to be.

The investigation continues...

Its hard to find the solution when you're not having the problem yourself.

I've noticed the site is slower since the move to the new server, not massively so most of the time, but every now and again it really hangs and I have to close the browser - usually Firefox.

Opera's fine again now, as is FF. I've uninstalled MSN 8 beta and re-installed 7.5 which has sped up my laptop incredibly. Maybe it was caused by that?

Yesterday I was going to say that it seems to be behaving itself, then it went really slow again.

Same problem this morning, but instead of closing the browser I kept it open in some vague hope it would display an error message telling me what's wrong. And now it's gone back to normal of its own accord.

I think the internet's just farting.

I must say, when this thread first appeared, I thought it read Gamestyle and THE Opera. Was all looking forward to us organising a trip to Romance in Vienna by Strauss in London. Turns out it was a browser thing. sigh. Anyway, a mate of mine who lurks on here read your post and he uses Opera without any problems whatsoever.
