It's an over-designed paper weight to go along with thier overdesigned doorstop that is the iMac.
< Not an apple fan.
Wired.com has price speculations going on around the $1,200US mark, whereas other PC manufacturers are also beinging tablets out, open source like PCs, at under half the price. If i ever get one, it'll be one of these.
Oh, and goodbye kindle.
Edit: Tubs got the last post out as i was typing - meh, it's still a mac at teh end of the day.

60 days time for wifi, 90 for the 3g/wifi version - but why anyone would use that as a phone is beyond me. Apart from Dom Joly I guess, or people with gigantism in the hands....
Im getting so excited about this, as its the mac Ive wanted - tablet and can be used as a semi desktop device if required. I can just remote to my pc for full on desktop machine functionality too. All good. If I get one of these jobs Ill be gettin the 16Gb version.

It's not for me... it's not powerful enough for me to do anything significant on (and does it even allow me to install any Mac OSX app on there?) and I have an Android phone for things like that. Yet, it's too big to fit in my pocket, needs to hands and the-like.
If you can't run ANY application on there, and it's all based around the App Store; well Apple have created a computer that they control the applications on. By the rules of the App Store, you're not allowed to submit competing products - ie, no Firefox, no Opera, no Google Chrome. Safari all the way.
If Microsoft did this... nobody would take any notice... but if they did, there would be outrage.

Fair point, that. Although isnt there a photoshop app ? And for art stuff, I reckon itll be good - im sure someone will bring out a competing image editor to take advantage of the pads strengths as a graphics tablet.

I wouldn't mind having one, but I'm quite likely to be put off by the price. Like I am by many other Apple products.

I'm still confused as to what niche tablets are supposed to fill.
Not as powerful as lap tops, nor as versatile and not enough memory to store much. Can't make phone calls, can't play games under ten years old...
Here's where I think they're headed; to a point where they're less powerful butlink remotely to you home pc allowing you you to acessovied and photos onthetr and make videocalls all using the power of your home pc.
I'll let other people donate to the r&d effort.

There's a version of Adobe Photoshop for my Android and I imagine any iPad release will be similar to this; all it allows for is opening a photo and then adjusting colour, contrast, exposure, hue and saturation, etc, by sliding your finger across the screen. The iPad would be too hard to do any image editing on anyway because you'd have to use your hands / fingers to control that stuff. I prefer the look of the Microsoft Courier, to be honest. Whether it's real or not, we'll see.
