I haven't heard anything from any of those albums. I have taken Biffy Clyro and Arctic Monkeys from that list though, because I've heard singles from those tracks.

We apparently have dramatically different tastes in music.

I can't personally think of (m)any albums from 2009 that I buzzed about so much - I'm still playing albums from 2008. But, despite not really liking them at first, The XX album has really grown on me. Lots.

Encyclopedia - Difficult Season has also been played a lot. They're a band I've loved for years and they recorded this album and split up before they'd actually released it. It sounds like it's recorded in their garage, because it is. You can buy it for £3.

I've just been listening to a lot of eletro mixes and remixes of songs. Like, I love Passion Pit remixes, but haven't actually listened to their actual album.

The Tragically Hip - We Are the Same (italicised for adoration)
Paloma Faith - Do you want the truth or something else.. (although theres only a couple of top tunes on it)

Ill add to it if anything else pops into my head

When I saw this thread I jotted down a huge list of albums. Then, on reflection, I had to Wikipedia a whole bunch of them because I couldn't be sure they were actually released last year. Although I hold the albums I did post in high regard, a lot of what I listen to on a day to day basis is from another year or so back.

Boris - Japanese Heavy Rocks Hits (3x7")
Southern Lord Records
Bit of a concept piece, like the Melvins 10" releases a few years ago except this is much better. Each member of the trio takes the lead, or at least it seems. Huge amount of variation and experimentation, don't be fooled by the title!

Delorean - Ayrton Senna LP
Fool House Records
More of an EP but a huge tuneful romp from this Spanish outfit. Any album named after an F1 driver is of course an automatic inclusion, even an overrated Brazilian.

Japandroids - Post Nothing LP
Unfamiliar Records
Sloppy guitar seconds that occasionally breaks out into a tune. Just 8 tracks on this release so its over before you know it.

Melt Banana - Melt Banana Lite Live Ver 0.0 LP
A-Zap Records
This is Melt Banana but without guitars and I'm hooked on it. This sounds like a gig recorded in an amusement arcade with the machines taking centre stage. Even some of the songs from 'Bambi's Dilemma' sounds fresh in this new setting.

Pains of Being Pure At Heart - Self Titled LP
Slumberland Records
This could slot onto Postcard Records easily except its 2009 and the band are from New York. Some great indie noise pop picked moments here.

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus LP
Layaute Records
Brilliant French pop, so slick and stylish; making it a sweet listen from beginning to end.

Ramona Falls - Intuit LP
Barsuk Records
One of the guys behind Menomena teams up with various musicians and gives us a more string based experienced and we're thankful for it.

Sunset Rubdown - Dragonslayer LP
Jagjaguwar Records
Everything in the melting pot here and at times you're holding on trying to stay in close proximity. At times it thrills and with a little more focus could have been a great one.

The Tranzmitors - Busy Singles LP
Busy Records
Great Canadian guitar pop-punk music done with huge style and some strong writing ability.

Thao With the Get Down Stay Down - Know Better Learn Fast LP
Kill Rock Stars Records
Real fun album with uplifting moments and some catchy hooks.

We Were Promised Jet Packs - These Four Walls LP
Fat Cat Records
Local band deliver the debut of the year. Moments of Leatherface, Jawbreaker and a naivety reminiscent of the great Ride in terms of playing and lyrics. One to watch!

The XX - XX LP
Warp Records
Praised debut by many and I cannot disagree. Just something you have to hear again and again to fully appreciate

Thao has gone down well with quite a few female colleagues and We Were Promised Jet Packs is good fun.

I will check these out. I've heard the name banded about a lot - but not too sure if I've heard anything by them or not.

Also, I'd like to add Tubelord - Our First American Friends to the list. This is a debut album for the band, and it's a corker!
