Hey boys and girls,

Later tonight, around 9pm (BST), I'm going to take the forums offline and run some routine maintenance and such-like. It should only be down for around 30mins and the main site will still be available for you to read some reviews - such as our review of inFamous on the PS3 or our preview of The Conduit on the Wii.

That is all.

Possibly. Dave sent me some FTP details now, so I can upload stuff if needs be - you'll have to let me know what's involved (or I'll just find the thread where you mentioned it).

I'm working off the theory that everyone has Gamestyle in their bookmarks anyway. ;)

But, I'll put those links in the 'Forum Offline' message too... especially for you, tubs.

What is the ipod mod?
It puts banners all over the site for 'FREE IPOD GIVE-AWAY!' and also makes the site look pretty for people who are visiting on their iPod / iPhone, I believe.

But more the latter and none of the former.

Phew.  That will do nicely for me when browsing from work (in my scheduled lunch hour).

Will be handy when installed.

Yeah, just checked, and there wont be adverts - I bought it (was only 2.95 or something) so it should be all groovy. Let me know if u need me to send u the zipfile (via twitter if u need it while the forums down). There is a free version with adverts, but thats for pikeys and people with one leg shorter than the other.

This downtime is no longer downtime. The iPhone / iPod app isn't installed (yet).

I'm having issues with pages not refreshing properly and showing new posts that I've already seen. Is that related to the maintenance or is that just my browser being screwy?

EDIT: Argh, I had to refresh this page in order to see my own post!

empty cache - matt may have done an upgrade in all this, so if files have been updated and others havent, they might be confusing each other, if u catch my drift. lets see what happens when I click "post" (I clear cache every time FF closes)

EDIT: Was immediate, back to page with new post. Loving the speed of this new server :)

Cleared my cache, flushed my DNS, deleted all cookies, logged back in again - still doing it. I had to refresh the forum again to even show that I was logged in. It's like it's showing me old pages instead of the current ones. Very weird.

I'll try a different browser...

FF 3.5 is excellent -  so much faster than before, and theres some top addons for it too, which is nice. I use my copy of FF as my workspace, have loads of web related plugins to help me day to day :)

Hmm, AdamGS and seaempty were having this issue yesterday - I was hoping that the maintenance (which was basically me running the forum's routine tasks, backing up the database, recounting all the stats and stuff) would solve this issue. The forum does some form of caching itself - but it shouldn't be that because it's always done the caching.

It may be browser related as it's only affecting certain users; what were Adam and seaempty using when they had the issue?

I was (and am) at work, using IE7. It was fine last night, when I was using Chrome and Opera.

I just had to download Safari so I could view the site. I hate making my laptop suffer with bullshit Apple programs.  Oh man, it's so slow.

Any idea when this issue will be fixed?
