Well technically, I'm giving mine up on my own accord. All the team least friday were buying me drinks cos my leaving really takes the presuure of them.

Analysts here are predicting that the crisis in Aus should start to repair itself by the second half to end of this year some way ahead of the rest of the world.

Until then, however....

Im in this boat at the moment. Didnt post earlier, as I was trying to save my job - a few websites that are due to be finishing could bring enough money in to cover me for the next month and then itd be a month by month basis, but its been really getting me down of late, and I just want out. Maybe taking the webwork myself to bring in an income, not sure. The missus is understandably scared cos of no money coming in, so its been pretty shite for the past few months. May have to get a job as a postman just to cover bills, which sux balls big time. Gives me time to work on "the project" but still, not really what I imagined id be doing this time last year. What-a-load-of-old-bollocks.

I wont get the actual date for another month or so but I'll be getting redundancy around Dec/Jan. Whilst it would probably make more sense to start looking for another job now, I'm inclined to see out my time as after 7 years here I'm due a reasonable pay off.

Really have no idea what I'm going to do after that though.

Its a very shit time to be in this position, especially as there are so many other people in the same boat. not good. I as made redundant ages ago, got a massive wedge payout, enough to not work for a year, play games and get stoned all the time, but my situation is different now, so theres more at stake.

I would actually prefer to be let go before Christmas as the money would certainly be useful at that time of year.

I can see me going away for a week or so but I want to avoid the 'I can afford not to work' mentality or I'll never get up off my arse!

I was about two days away from selling everything and going travelling, due to the money running out, before I got my job. Total fluke that one - knew the guy there etc. Just got pm'd by a mate who works for a newspaper and asked for my CV though, so maybe all is not lost. Strangely though, its the newspaper I used to work at, and had my work experience at. Wanted to be a journalist, see. Glad now I didnt take that route, although I would prboably still be in a job - people are always doing stuff that needs writing about.

It is frightening how many folks are affected by this. I wonder what percentage of fourmites here are victim to all this. It makes me glad that I chose to work in the NHS as it is relatively secure (for now).

Its a constant topic amongst friends. Funny thing about the company I work for, we're actually doing better than ever mainly due to us finally (after many years) getting it right.

Still in the industry I work in, there's alot of concern and companies will easily try and outsource the work abroad if they can. Hopefully the economy picks up soon.

Where I work has been hit. There have been redundancies. I'm told I'm safe at the moment.

Well, I've been looking for job myself for 5 months now. Had to quit mine in Perth when we moved back to melbourne and I'm still looking. Apparently Aus is the most industrialised country to best withstand the recession so far, but even now I'm going up against people with double my experience for my level jobs and in a few cases got quite far down the recruitment process, only to have somene internal to the company put their hand up at the last minute and them get the job so they don't have pay a recruitment firm fee.

We're lucky that the in laws are letting us stay with them and we can rent our house out, but it's still very tight.

Yeah its pants, especially with kids to feed n that. I'm positive though, this side project Im working on could well come to fruition in the next few weeks, so theres that, and if I do need to be Postman Pat briefly to cover shizzle, then so be it. It really does hark back to the depression though, people were moving towns just to get work back then, just doing anything and its skirting around that being the case again.

I'm in a fairly niche area of retail, so I'm pretty secure. I've been wanting to move on for years, though, so the current climate certainly doesn't help.
The missus is hoping not to be made redundant next week (company downsizing). Fingers crossed for her.

I found out on Monday that because the new system which will be replacing me isn't ready yet, the end date of my job has been pushed back another 2-3 months to March/April. Normally I would be grateful for the extra months of work but this is the 3rd time this year that the date has been pushed back and with so little certainty its impossible to make any plans for the future (even if my 'plans' so far only include sun, sand and stupid amounts of alcohol). However, I can see that I'll be let go just shy of the start of the new tax year to avoid giving me any raise that would push up my redundancy payment.
