God of War III

I was never a big fan of the previous two, but I supposed I'll give this a try just to get some play out of my PS3.

From the scarcity of footage, I'd say it's a long way off yet. Still, it looks... shiny.

A new trailer, with commented stuff overlaid is around now, and oh my god it looks so fucking awesome! :o

Im so looking forward to it. This is one of the games I got a PS3 for (generally these kinds of exclusives). I absolutely love the GoW games, and really wish I had some way of playing 1 n 2 without buying a PS2 (Ive only played PSP version) - if they ever came out for download on PSN, Id get them. Love the "zipper tech" they mention in this trailer, where entrails come out of bellys that are cut :-) Visceral is always good.

Looks good. Lots of enemies sounds exciting so long as they're not tedious damage-sponges like in the other games and you can do some crowd damage or throw 'em into each other. I suspect a lot of it will be QTE-based, again, but it should be fun. They know how to do spectacle if nothing else.
Let's see some actual game footage next.

God of War Collection, coming to PS3.

Quote
The fans spoke and we listened.

For those that recall the God of War survey conducted earlier this year, an overwhelming amount of the community suggested the PlayStation 2 experiences of Kratos be brought forth to the PlayStation 3.

Thanks to your feedback, we are excited to announce the God of War Collection for this Holiday Season. Now fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic journey of God of War and God of War II in 720p HD form. Both titles have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics, running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience, only on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring the PlayStation Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the very first time.

This is your chance to experience God of War is its true form before the chaos of God of War III hits store shelves come March 2010.

Here’s the full press release:

SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT AMERICA ANNOUNCES
GOD OF WAR® COLLECTION, A NEW COMPILATION OFFERING FOR PLAYSTATION®3
Exclusive God of War® and God of War® II Blu-ray Disc Compilation
Available This Holiday Season

FOSTER CITY, Calif., September 1, 2009 – Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced today a new and exclusive PlayStation®3 (PS3™) offering for the critically acclaimed God of War® franchise, God of War® Collection. Scheduled for release this holiday season, God of War Collection will feature reworked versions of both God of War® and God of War® II on a single Blu-ray Disc™ at full 1280 x 720 resolution. Both critically acclaimed games, which were originally developed for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring PlayStation®Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the first time (included for both games). God of War Collection offers substantial value to PS3 consumers, the compilation of both best-selling games costing just $39.99 MSRP.

Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment, Santa Monica Studio, the God of War series brings epic mythological battles to life with stunning graphics and an elaborate plot that puts Kratos, the triology’s main character, at the center of carnage and destruction as he seeks revenge against the Gods who have betrayed him. God of War® III is scheduled for release exclusively on the PS3 in March 2010.

“We are excited today to announce God of War Collection,” said Scott Rohde, vice president, Worldwide Studios America. “Our fans spoke and we listened; thanks to our partnership with Bluepoint Games, fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic God of War and God of War II saga in stunning 720p on PS3. This Blu-ray Disc compilation brings Kratos to PS3 even earlier than expected.”

Disc, rather than download, but that's cool.

I wonder if they'll do an Ico/SotC one before The Last Guardian is released...

I think you'll really like them, Tubs. The scale of the setpieces is so much bigger than those of Chains of Olympus. Plus you get the proper start of Kratos's story, not the retconned prequel version.

Big cliffhanger after GoW2, but by then the third one will be ready...

I may purchase if I am stuck for something to play. You know, after MW2, L4D2, Uncharted 2 and a few others I have not thought of yet.  So many games and so little time.

Hi everyone

I’m Thach Quach, Senior European Product Manager for the brutal and highly-anticipated God of War III, exclusive to PlayStation 3.

God of War Ultimate Trilogy Edition

I’d like to give you some details about the “God of War III: Ultimate Trilogy Edition” we have planned for Europe, Australia and New Zealand and answer any questions you might have.

We’ve been working pretty hard on this for the past few months but I’m delighted to announce that the “Ultimate Trilogy Edition” will be available in limited quantities in most European countries, Australia and New Zealand at the same time as the standalone God of War III game. Pricing and exact release details to be confirmed in the next few weeks so stay tuned :-)

This very special edition will come in a high-end, sculpted replica of Pandora’s Box and we are planning to include the following items inside:

    * God of War III
    * God of War Collection (gentle reminder, this is God of War and God of War II, remastered in HD, running at 60 fps, with Trophy support, all on one Blu-ray Disc)
    * Extra game content downloadable via PlayStation Network:
          o God of War Combat Arena containing an exclusive environment and seven challenges to complete
          o Dominus character skin
          o Apollo character skin
          o Phantom of Chaos character skin
          o Forgotten Warrior character skin

    * Exclusive video content downloadable via PlayStation Network:
          o God of War: Unearthing the Legend Franchise Documentary. This is a full-length documentary detailing the history of the God of War franchise. A must have for fans!

    * Special audio bonus content:
          o God of War Trilogy Soundtrack – God of War, II, and III scores from the game
          o God of War: Blood and Metal EP – a heavy metal homage featuring original music inspired by God of War

    * Additional content:
          o Artbook
          o Postcards

Below is an image of the actual box and also work in progress visuals of its content. I hope you’ll agree that it looks pretty sweet ;)

This “Ultimate Trilogy Edition” will be released in limited quantities at the same time as the main God of War III launch next year.

That’s about it for now… I leave you with some concept art pieces which have been released previously but that you may not yet have seen. Enjoy the rest of the end of year festivities. :)

Thach
