Gamestyle Remembers Zelda Ocarina of Time 10yrs On
« on: 10 December 2008 at 05:10pm »
Check out our online feature, where Adam goes back in time (spot on 10yrs) to the release of Zelda Ocarina Of Time.

http://www.gamestyle.net/articles/1602/Gamestyle_Remembers:_Zelda:_Ocarina_of_Time/

Also looking around the GS backstage I found my own thoughts on that shortage, which until today was unavailable online due to page errors.

http://www.gamestyle.net/articles/817/The_Stampede_for_Zelda_Ocarina_of_Time/

I have fond memories of the game and that launch, so much so after putting that feature online, I dug out this, still with me today...

If there wasn't so much stuff waiting to be played I'd definately get out my copy (the one with Wind Waker) and relive those classic moments. But for now I think I'll save it for a quieter period.

Oh, and if anyone would be kind enough to digg my feature, it'd be much appreciated. :D

Wowsers, that's about as minty-fresh as an N64 game can get!

Great features. Will digg when I can remember my password!

Sod it. The other games can wait, I want to relive the magic. I shall be playing courtesy of the bonus disc that came with Wind Waker.

I don't want to just blast through the story either, I'm just taking my time with it, completing side quests along the way. I even helped the woman in Kakariko Village get all her chickens back. It's amazing that I can remember things so clearly and yet some things I completely forget about. I made myway up to the Gorons only to remember that I needed to go to the woods first and learn Sarias song. This is where I saved. That way when I load it back up I'll automatically be back on my house. I can't wait to reach adulthood. The way you come out of the Temple and witnes the destruction around you is a wonderful and touching moment.

More of my adventures to follow. :D I'm hoping to reach Jabu Jabu's Belly before the end of the weekend.

I once made it through the Shadow Temple without the Lens of Truth.

I went through a lot of arrows that day.

The journey continues. Made my way upto Jabu Jabu's Belly.

I'm finding myself doing things that aren't really required till a later time. So now I have three out of the four bottles and two of the magic spells (Din's Fire and Farores Wind). Had a little bit of a problem though. I was going to go through Jabu Jabus Belly, did a bit, met with Ruto and accidentally threw her into some deep water. Only for the game to then crash. Luckily I saved just before Zora's Kingdom so didn't have to do an awful lot again.

Still annoying though. Might give it another attempt later tonight.

I'll defo go back to the game sometime. As I was hunting it out for the picture above, I found that I had two boxed Mario 64's for some reason. Tend to keep all my games shipshape.

One I have to try and complete is Majora's Mask, I just reached a stage where the time factor bit was doing my 'ead in and just gave up. Also found my Blast Corps, now that's a challenge plus Perfect Dark. I may go back to that one also, given I cannot remember much about it apart from that annoying little alien.

I am now an adult!

Got the third and final stone and headed up to the castle. It's great when you walk up to the drawbridge, as you see the clouds appear in the sky and everything goes dark, you know something is wrong. Then Ganondorf and Zelda come riding out the castle. Just like the dream at the start of the game. Now that I'm all grown up and I need to go to Kakariko and pick up the hookshot (I think) that lets me get in the Forest Temple. I can't quite remember where to find it though. Was it the graveyard? Or is that something else?

I might actually pop over to Lon Lon Ranch first and free Epona.

About time, mate. Now stop playing those silly games and get a job. And a haircut.

Etc.

I forgot to mention that I'm still discovering new things all these years later. I was in the Goron City and bombed a few walls. I went inside and was greeted by Biggoron who said he's working on something special and I should come back in a few years.

I'm not exactly looking forward to the Biggoron Sword stuff. My memory is a little foggy, but I do sort of remember an ultra long fetch quest.

Played some more this evening. :D

I went to Kakariko Village and talked to that chicken lady again who gave me a blue egg which has since hatched. Got the hookshot, which quickly came back to me once I went to where it's located, and also learned the Sun Song. Then it was off to the Forest Temple where I saved. I'm still loving every minute of it.

Ah I can still remember playing this on Christmas day.  The mrs had bought me a N64 and I told my brother (who was working at Toys R Us at the time) that if he didn't get it for me he would be did to me.  Needless to say he actually canceled someone's pre-order so he could pick it up for me.  At first I felt a little guilty that someone, possibly a child, was missing out on a game that they had no doubt been looking forward to as long as I had.  Once I started playing it though I just though fuck ’em

That's the Forest Temple done and dusted. Took me longer than expected though. I started it last night, but trying to play a Zelda game while falling asleep is not advised. I still found myself stuck this evening and I was in a reasonably awake state. I blame those twisty corridors.

Now time to climb Death Mountain (and give the chicken lady her blue chicken back).

Not one of the most productive days in my Zelda adventure. I did collect over 20 gold skulltula tokens (earning the secret finding rumble feature), but that's all really. I got well and truly stuck trying to aquire the Fire Tunic and getting into the Fire Temple. I did bomb the goron that's rolling around who's supposed to give you the tunic, but I couldn't interact with him at all making me thing I hit a slight bug.

At least I have the whole weekend to make some progress.

Wasn't a bug. I forgot to go and talk to Sheik in the Temple of Time after beating the Forest Temple. Annoying seeing as Navi tells you to climb Death Mountain, the annoying little thing.

Just had a quick session. Freed Epona from Lon Lon Ranch and have just done a little bit of the Fire Temple before getting stuck. My knowledge of the Adult Link dungeons seems to be a little foggy.

I feel I'm starting to talk to myself here. Oh well. I do that in the "REAL WORLD" anyway.

The Fire Temple has now been completed. Looking back it's probably one of the my least favourite dungeons. Aesthetically it's not that pleasing and the music just passed me by, probably because it's straight after the eery yet beautiful Forest Temple. Once that was done I hit some rocks with my hammer and entered another Fairy Fountain. The fairy blew some dust out of her private parts (that's what it looks like anyway) and doubled my magic meter. Then it was off to Zora's Domain. It's all frozen over and after racking my brain I remember that little Ice mini-dungeon. Went into Zoras Fountain (picked up a heart piece along the way) and went into the Ice area. Easily beat that, the block puzzle being far easier than I remember, and got myself the Heavy Boots before Sheik turned up and gave me the song to warp to Lake Hylia. I just adore the music that plays when Sheik turns up.

Following this I got some of that blue flame and melted King Zora who then gave me the Tunic so I can breathe underwater. From there it was onto Lake Hylia and I quickly entered the Water Temple. Oh god, here we go again...:(

Okay, I admit it. I used a guide to complete the Water Temple and quite frankly I'm glad because even with a guide it was a nightmare. First I got eaten by a like-like, but managed to kill him before he swallowed my shield. However, when I got to some underwater stuff I noticed that the little shit also ate my water tunic. God damn it! So I loaded my last save and repeated an extra twenty minutes. It then got worse when I forgot to pick up the boss key. It was right there, but I got distracted by some fairies which I was trying to catch with a bottle. And completely forgot to go back and open it. Cue another twenty minutes of backtracking. Thank god I got through all that.

Then once I beat the worst boss in the game I shot my arrow into the sunset to get the fire arrows. Did a few sidequests. Caught a twenty pound fish earning myself the gold scale, beat the archery mini-game in Kakariko village to get the large quiver and finally got over thirty skulltulas which got me the giants wallet. Now time to head to the bottom of the well.

Took a few days off for Christmas festivities, but went back to this for a bit this afternoon. My memory is getting worse it seems. I couldn't remember how to get the Song of Storms so had to check on the interwebs. Bit of a strange one. So you have to go the windmill man as an adult who tells you that you played a song when you were a child. So you have to go back and play that song to him as a child. TIME PARADOX!!!  :nerd:

Anyway, got the song, but decided to do some sidequests. Went into Hyrule Castle town at night and found that womans dog and also did the treasure chest mini-game. Oh, and got the really easy one from the top of Dodogongos Cavern. That's three heart pieces for me.

Entered the bottom of the well and did a bit of it before saving and taking a break. I got the Lens of Truth but kept falling through the floor.
