Favourite Gaming Mags Of Olden Days
« on: 18 January 2009 at 06:56pm »
Clearing out some stuff today and I stumble on some real memories with the Official Sega Saturn Magazine and N64. So much so, I had a good read!

What I enjoyed most about them was the fact they covered the whole spectrum and showed some real humour despite being an unfashionable format.

I also found Video Gamer (Issue 4), which was a 99p magazine and a piece of Gamestyle history. As this was the shortlived mag what had a forum, where I met Dean and we started this Gamestyle trip.

Main ones were the  Sinclair ones - used to love the writing style in that, very funny. Funniest mag Ive ever read though was (iirc) Game Zone or somethng - it started out as a console mag, first cover was Mario World SNES, and it used to have me in stitches, a few of the writers from that have gone on to other things. Zzap!! Wasnt up my street as it was for commodore, but PC Format (before it became family friendly) was good.

PC/CD Gamer was great for coverdiscs, as was PC Zone (another favourite). Also The Games Machine (which ive got all as CBR files now).

Theres been a few over the years, and ive probably read or dipped into pretty much all of them I reckon.

I used to be a big fan of the the Official Nintendo Magazine. This was back during the SNES days though where they never mentioned the competition and just concentrated on the games coming out for their console. Then they redesigned it for the N64 launch and it was all "GreystationLOL" and '"DreampantsROFL".
