You have just cost me £57! Yes, I have just had to buy a pre-owned GameCube for £15, a second controller for £14.99 and a copy of Phantasy Star Online Ver. 1 & 2 all because you had to put up the old review for the Dreamcast version.
After raking up countless hours on both the Dreamcast and GameCube (the later more 4-player co-op offline) I now have the urge once again to play through it. I would have got the newish Universe version however I refuse because I can't play offline with my chums and Missus.
So I'm curious, has anyone else here re-purchased after re-reading a review here?

That's good to hear!
I did intend to put up our review of PSO 2 on the DC but unfortunately its incomplete, which is a shame that was always a more hardcore version.
There is a PSO game for the PS2 with netplay, I'd like to see a new title on a current format. I may get addicted once again.

I'm quite tempted to pick up the 360 version, although I understand it's pretty poor.

Phantasy Star Universe on the 360 and PS2 is only single player offline, which is useless to me as I play with the missus offline as well as online.
Anyway, it has arrived today so I am looking forward to home time so I can play this.

I remember downloading the PSU demo and not being able to get it to work online. I'm sorry, but I'm not faffing around with my router settings when every other game works perfectly.

I've been in touch with Mike who was our resident PSO junkie in the DC era and he does have his original review of PSO 2, or believes so.
I'm hopeful that we'll be able to put that review up at a later date and I'll add screens and suchlike to the GC review.

This game is still excellent today. The pop up and frame rate lets it down a tad but all-in-all has aged quite well. It is bringing back many fond memories as I first played it during my A Levels, happier times with no bills as living at home so I could put many hours in.

One of the things still strong in my memory was the soundtrack, which I have. Sonic Team haven't done much of note since PSO.

The soundtrack is indeed lovely, except for the main title theme "Whole New World"? which sounds like it has the vocal talents of Charlotte Church.
