Interested to see how this pans out:
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/17/porfolio-com-lucasarts-and-bioware-building-kotor-mmo/

Quote
Portfolio.com just published a short excerpt of its interview with EA boss John Riccitiello who tells the site that it's "got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development" including "the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about -- in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare." One doesn't need to connect too many dots to arrive at the conclusion that BioWare is returning to the Star Wars universe with a Knights of the Old Republic MMO.

Of course, this product has been rumored for ... well, for a long time. Separately confirming a BioWare / LucasArts collaboration and a BioWare MMO project lead to certain obvious conclusions and countless other rumors and leaks seemed to do everything but confirm (and some denied) the project's existence. Though it would appear Riccitiello wasn't quite ready to put a name on that project – it's Portfolio.com connecting those dots – by referencing that this is the game that "people are dying for us to talk to them about" he clearly seems to be pointing to KOTOR.

[Update: We've just spoken with N. Evan Van Zelfden, the writer of the report, who told us that when asked specifically if this game was "KOTOR Online", Riccitiello responded unequivocally, "Yes." So, there you have it – sounds like we can take off our skeptical glasses.]

After the debacle that was Galaxies post combat revamp, I hope they dont fuck this up.

Well, as a comparison, Galaxies was £7.99 a month, thats about the usual price.

Its Dr. Manhatten!!  nice avatar Tubs...and a quality graphic novel/comic.  I am looking forward to the movie as it look spretty true to the source so far.  I would have liked to have seen someone like Chritian Bale or  Tim Roth.

The best news about this (other than it's Bioware who're making it) is the setting.  It's based around the time of KOTOR so when the Sith and Jedi are more opposite idelogies than political forces and must work around other entitities with their own agendas.

As for subs.... MMO subs have really been spared interest rate rises for the past ten years, it's only a matter a time before they go up, especially in the current global climate.

For those who don't know - yesterady Star Wars:  The Old Republic, an MMO by Bioware, was officially announced thus ended one fo the worst kept secrets in gaming.

WoW and WAR are now officially only place holders for MMO gaming time.

WOOT!
top news - bioware are surely gonna do something good with this - Galaxies was great fun till they nerfed it.
Lol at this comment on the site:

"i want this game so much! but if it requires monthly fees then i'll find something else to play"
Surely, then you dont really want it that much?

When this comes out, lets try and get on same servers, as SWG was great for groups

Bioware said that it will be the first story-driven MMO.

Whatever that means.  I'm assuming it will be something like the phasing thing that's going to be in Wrath of the Lich King.

So far they've only announced that two classes will be Sith and Jedi.

C'mon Mandalorian!!!

I dunno about this. Galaxies was one of the worst mmos i ever played. But at least when it first came out you couldn't choose to be a Jedi. It was a rare unlock. If they have jedi/sith as a class from the outset in kotor then surely it will be so overpopulated compared to other classes.

Its more story driven - so it might be ok. Prob with Galaxies, is they made too many planets with too much empty space, which led to bugs, spawn bugs, location bugs etc etc. Just too big for its own good. I watched the interview last night, and its more story driven this time, so you can treat it like a single player Bioware title, but join friends to play too. Not as much pressure to grind, unless you want it.

I had to go out and buy KOTOR (currently on the look out for II) to get me in the mood.

Man I hope it's backwards compatible on the 360....

I got kotor I & II a while back and thought they were pants. Started playing mass effect instead.
I think the last star wars game that I actually played through to the end was jedi knight- Sith

That's an improvement on the earlier screanshots.  Looking good!

I've decided when this comes out I'm going to be getting an EU opy of the game to play with RL mates back home.
