After lookign around it seems this game is getting better reviews and player impressions than I anticipated, so I'm picking it up on my day off tomorrow. Anyone else got or getting it?

Yes. I'm going to be doing the review.
I'm unimpressed so far.
The online is ridiculous - teams of 12 but you can only talk to the three others in your squad. I seemed to spend about 5 minutes running across the map, only to get killed by a camper. Rinse. Repeat. I'm hoping it will "click" after a bit more play.
Only done the first mission of single player, but that wants to buck its ideas up as well.
Still, everyone else loves it.

Amazing game. Good online, but suffered from the same problem all online shooters with a rifle class has : They're just too good, but utterly useless to the team. If you're in it for kills, kills, kills, you're doing it wrong. the Squad thing is a blessing and a curse. You don't have to hear all of the american kids calling the opposition "burning sticks" (work that one out), but sometimes you get stuck in a squad full of them. Once i got in a squad with some friends, however, it was ace.. There's even an achievement for playing a round by inviting your mates ("Me and my devil dogs"). The only thing that really lets the game down is the Xbox live community. And the lack of private games, i guess.
Single player is interesting, only got one more weapon to find, but about 25% of the gold remains undiscovered.

I'm considerring getting it, was waiting to see what others thought of the mutliplayer (have no interest in the single player) first.
I was both impressed and dissapointed by BF2: modern Combat on Live. Dissapointed that it was a pale immitation of BF2 and impressed that a game so much less than BF2 could still be so fun.
If the general consensus is that it's better than Modern Conbat I'll get it.
Also "burning stsicks"? You'll have to try harder than that, mate.

No private games or a party system? Pre-order cancelled. AND GUESS WHAT?

Yeah I saw that on the 'muk Rich, You'd think a company like EAwho try to make their games as appeal across the board would at least get that right.

Is there any company who gives southpaw as a standard option on all their games?

Of course. Bungie, Rare, Free Radical Design, Infinity Ward, Ubisoft and plenty of others. The bad ones are EA, Midway, 2K and a few others.

It's only a line of code that they need to change as well, a programmer on the Muk assured me. It's only a half a day's work!

I spent another couple of hours online and it's fair to say that I "get" the online mode a little more now.
It needs a real investment of time though. And the squad system is still retarded.

I seemed to spend about 5 minutes running across the map, only to get killed by a camper. I thought it was impossible to camp now because you can just blow up (almost) entire buildings.

Not if you don't know they're there.
Twice on the first night and once last night someone from the enemy team was in our base, killing our dudes (DYSWIDT), and each time they probably killed four or five of our team before we could kill them. No spawn shield FTL. Could I holler a warning to my teammates? Only the three in my squad who either didn't appear to have mics, not the other 8.
And as for demolishing walls, there's no consitency as to the amount of damage. Sometimes you take out a whole flank of a building. Shoot at a brick wall though and you leave a gap big enough for one person to squeeze through. It's also too slow to switch weapons.

Sure. Make sure everyone gets a chance to host for the achievement, though.
