I almost bought Dark City on blu ray for £15....something stayed my hand though.  Any decent trailers on the web?

Watching a trailer will do nothing for you because Dark City is such a unique film that in the 1 minute they show you'll still have no idea what it's about. It's a film that just has to be watched.

Sounds a bit heavy to me....but I remember when it was released and I always thought it looked like an interesting film.  Has it aged badly at all?  It sounds a bit shallow but I find that if I am watching a very stylised film from yesteryear for the first time it never quite entices me.

I can't really say if it's aged badly because it's the first time I've watched it. However, it's the directors cut and looking at the differences on Wikipedia it says a number of things have been "cleaned up". Besides, it was only released ten years ago. It's not as if you're going back to the early 80's.

And it's anything but shallow.

LOL...I meant that what I was saying sounds shallow (as in..it is shallow of m to disregard watching a film that looks 'old').

I think next time I see it I will pick it up.

Glad you enjoyed it. Fantastic film, rarely seen since its theatrical release.

Just picked up saints and soldiers.

Picture quality and sound is nice with that slightly grainy look WW2 films employ a la Band of Brothers.  It ceretainly owes a lot to Band of Brothers as the atmosphere (and the soundtrack) are very similar.  For me this was no bad thing as I loved the series.

The film charts a group of American soldiers and one RAF soldier as they become separated from there respective troops and have to travel cross country with minimal weaponry in order to deliver some vital iontelligence that the RAF pilot has opbtained.

If you like WW2 films and liked Band of Brothers this is worth a viewing.

Now I am off to play CoD2 again :)

Should have The Mist on import sometime next week. It's one film that struggled to be seen here at it was hardly in the cinema's but I heard decent things about it. Lots of extras plus a version of the film in black n white, should be interesting!

Couldn't you just turn off the colour scheme on your tv? :P

I found a place where I can get my PS3 fixed, in the meantime my copies of Transformers, Speed Racer & Iron Man will be shipped out in about 2 weeks. Looking forward to watching Speed Racer for the first time

According to Blu-ray.com it says Region A but the back cover doesn't mention anything. I'll try it out on my local player when I get it

I'd recommend these guys if you want to see if a Blu Ray is region free. They use UK PS3's as part of their checking process, seems the 1 disc edition of Iron Man is region free, 2 disc awaits confirmation...

Has anyone imported Stephen Chow's A Chinese Odyssey Series on blu-ray? Its restricted to Region A only and I heard that the latest DVD version is still carrying around the same 8 year old english subtitle translation (which makes absolutely no sense)

I haven't had the chance to get stuck into the sizeable extras, so you'll have to do with the review below. The transfer is excellent but I bear in mind that this isn't a huge budget film which lends itself to being a tech demo. The CGI during one supermarket sequence was a little ropey, but apart from that not bad. Really refreshing end to a movie, actually quite brilliant.

I'll add comments about the extras later in the week.

The Mist
Blink and you missed the theatrical release of this film. Despite positive reviews it didn't even make my local multiplex, which is a shame given the poor horrors we constantly see.

Darabont turned down offers of an increased budget to change the ending but thankfully stuck with his vision, in what is another superb King adaptation. Strong performances from all concerned and many themes covered. Yes, there is blood and something in the mist (CGI not as bad as expected), but like Carpenter's The Fog it is never overplayed.

In many ways this is a disaster movie and asks the question what would you do?  Well?
