Going to see Bombay Bicycle Club tomnight at the Leadmill in Sheffield.  Looking forward to it as I can't stop listening to their album.

Just press the stop button - its usually a square shape. Or Pause, which has a habit of looking like this: I I

Comedian.

Anyways, this band were really good. It was only a small venue (and they were segmented off into a smaller area) but they got a great reception from the crowd.  Definitely a band to keep an eye on.  Check out this (nice cheeky riff throughout):

Finished work early today and went to buy the new Gomez album from my favourite record store and Bombay Bicycle Club were playing an acoustic set. Awesome week.

This morning I booked myself a ticket to see Joe Bonamassa @ Hammermsith Apollo next May. I am so excited. I've wanted to see him live for years but everytime I find out he's playing a London gig its always long after it has sold out.

That's 4 gigs booked now for the first half  of next year. Really hoping Pearl Jam come back here and play enough gigs that I actually have a chance to get tickets. Also looking forward to Megadeth coming over to tour the new album.

A while ago I was at work dealing with a bunch of songs by a band called The Brute Chorus and as I liked the name I decided to check them out. Through iTunes I bought a single they'd just put out called The Cuckoo & The Stolen Heart which I found instantly catchy. To my ear their sound was cross between The White Stripes, Dirty Pretty Things and a third mystery ingredient.

Much as I liked the song it soon slid out of my everyday playlist (as songs do eventually) until it turned up again yesterday on a random shuffle. So back I went to iTunes to find a whole album now released and picked it up for less than 7 quid. While giving it the first run through, enjoying most of it as much as that first single, I had a look online to see the sort of places they play at with the intention of 'adding them to the live list'. As it happens they are playing near me next Friday for the not unreasonable sum of £10 so I bought myself a ticket. I love a quick turnaround. I hate getting into a band and when I go looking for live gigs finding out I've just missed the tour.

The Tragically Hip, London HMV, 30th Nov.

I doubt many people on here know of this band, but I've been a major fan of them since 1993 after seeing them at Glastonbury. So, went to the gig last night and it was absolutely first class. Hlafway through, Kelly Jones of Stereophonics fame turned up to do a duet on Fiddlers Green:

The lead singer, Gord Downie, was on absolute top form too. Hes such a great front man, just had the crowd captivated for the whole (pretty long) gig.

Im in such a great mood today for seeing them. 10/10.

Theyre in Manchester next, then Belfast and Dublin.

You recommended I should go and see these. I forgot. Although, they are playing tomorrow. Maybe I'll go watch them and report back.

This morning tickets went on sale for Pendulum @ Wembley Arena next year and, in a cruel twist of fate, its on the exact same night as Joe Bonamassa. So now my brother has a ticket to what I'm sure will be a fucking killer gig and I have a spare ticket I can't use :(

Sonisphere festival have got Iron Maiden booked as one of the headliners and, with a crowd I know already going, it looks like I will be as well. On top of that, the Poland leg of the Sonisphere tour has The Big 4 (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) appearing on the same bill for the first time ever and they are giving away a free weekend ticket to anyone who buys a full UK weekend pass by the end of this month (shitty timing, I know).

As well as that, Download looks to be something special in 2010 as its the 30 year anniversary of the original Monsters of Rock and although there wont be any announcements until the new year, AC/DC are already heavily rumoured to appear following the date appearing on the tour dates of their website and then being taken down sharpish.

Looks like its going to be the Summer of Rock for me. And all this only clashes with 1 England world cup match :)

So far this year I've seen Lamb of God, Trivium, Steel Panther, Airbourne (supported by the awesome Black Spiders) and Dropkick Murphys who were all brilliant. Dropkick Murphys were the band I was least familiar with but with the way they put on a live performance that hardly matters. I can't wait to see them live again.

I have a busy spell at the start of next month when I manage to fit in 3 gigs (Black Spiders, Biffy Clyro and Gogol Bordello) in the space of 4 days, followed by one more (Joe Bonamassa) later in the month.

From the 11th to the 14th of June I will be at Download which is lining up to be incredible. Already I've got to make some tough choices about who to see and when. Not going to have long to recover as on the 15th I fly out for the Polish leg of Sonisphere, coming home on the 17th. This will be my first trip abroad to somewhere other than Amsterdam in 10 years (barring a quick hop to Dublin) and it also keeps up my (albeit fairly new) tradition of only seeing Metallica in other countries!

Being made redundant at the end of June I have decided to celebrate my freedom with yet another festival by heading straight out to Bilbao for BBK Live which has the added benefit of being in a hot country :) I may even extend this into a full holiday but I wont book anything up yet until I've found the best deal. If I don't book this up I will probably try for a day ticket for Hard Rock Calling at the end of June just to see Pearl Jam.

Then at the end of July I round off my summer of music with the UK leg of Sonisphere. The lineup there doesn't amaze me as much as some of the others but it should still be a good laugh.

Last night I went to see Fuck Buttons at Manchester Academy 4 which was pretty fun. I got to meet up with some friends that i'd not seen for a while and have way too many drinks to celebrate my birthday.

The other week I went to see Darwin Deez at The Ruby Lounge. I took blogged about this already, but I took my old camera from the 1960s and shot some photos on film. It's pretty hardcore, shooting a gig with a manual flash, manual focus and obviously manual exposure and shutter speeds. I'm moderately happy with the results - the prints pretty much go with his style of music.

I like what I have heard of him so far...but don't you think he looks like an eagle eye cherry dressed as Jesus?

Been listening to his album and despite looking like someone else...he reminds a bit of The Strokes.  I am liking it though.

Got home yesterday from Sonisphere. Excellent festival with plenty of great bands playing. Iron Maiden closing on the Sunday were as good as you'd expect if you've ever seen them live before but Rammstein headlining on Saturday was the star performance of the weekend, They put of a seriously epic show that really does have to be seen on a big stage.
