Metallica (supported by Tenacious D) - Marlay Park, Dublin

Saw them both at Reading Festival this weekend. Tenacious D were fantastic, putting on a funny, lively performance more akin to a stage show than a gig, but with plenty of energetic rock music and great songs. They played everything I hoped they would (including 'Master Exploder' which had everyone in histerics) and didn't disappoint for a moment. They would have been my favourite performance of the weekend, however...

METALLICA WERE SO AWESOME!!! An immense performance. A relentless assault on the senses by a well-oiled machine of efficient entertaining power. Their two hour set absolutely flew by. And they were so... god-damned... LOUD!!

Hell, I'd not even class myself as a fan, but that was something else. A much better experience than when I last saw them (Reading '03, in fact). Tremendous.

Rage Against the Machine were also far better than I expected, and I wasn't even as close to the stage as I'd've liked. Great performances all round. I'd mention the other bands I managed to catch, but nothing even came close to the above.

I am thoroughly knackered now, though.

I saw the highlights of Metallica's set on BBC3 and watched another 40 mins worth on the internet. Good stuff.

What I saw of Tenacious D had really poor sound quality but that's more to do with the recording than the performance.

I went to the Judas Priest concert at Acer Arena last Friday night.  Fucking Awesome \m/ .  I was sitting in the second row to the left of the mosh pit.  Priest played a couple of songs from Nostradamus, and quite a major chunk of their best stuff.  e.g. Metal Gods, Devil's Child, Breaking the Law, The Hellion/Electric Eye, Hell Bent for Leather (complete with the Harley), Painkiller, and they finished the show with You've Got Another Thing Coming.

Oh god. Lucas is in trouble.

Hot Chip were amazing last night, but I am now at my desk feeling very sorry for myself.

New song they played was great. Cover of Nothing Compares 2 U was win.

I am going to see Kasabian next Monday.  Although I am not too sure about their latest album.

I'm going to see The Streets tonight at Brixton Academy. Origianlly the gig was back in January but the venue suffered power probelms in the days leading up to it and it got cancelled. Forgot about it completely until yesterday when I spotted it on my calendar at work. Normally I'm well up for gigs but I'm so tired today that I can't generate any enthusiasm.

No such problem regarding AC/DC at Wembley on Friday though!

The Streets played Mad Ferret the other week and I seen them there... well, three songs at least - then we wandered off to another tent for some better music. The Streets were doing some dub set, and it was a bit shit. Loads of people thought it was awesome - I guess it was their cup of tea.

LOL. Your funny.

I seen Jamie T last night; one of the best gigs I've been to this year. FACT.

It was at Moho Live, a small dark and dingy venue in Manchester. The gig was sold out and it was a 14+ (urgh, no id, no drinks - even for old people), but there were lots of people there and it was lots of fun. Everyone at the front, which is where I was - jumping around in the mosh pit and having a little dance, was sooooo sweaty that I came out of the place looking like I'd just taken a shower with my clothes on.

The music was excellent, they had a good set list and his new stuff is quite cool - especially the new single 'Sticks N Stones'. Had a little chat before and after the gig with Jamie and Luis who called me over because I had a Tellison t-shirt on and Luis went to school with the guys from Tellison. Mutual friends, innit.

Just got back from seeing AC/DC at Wembley.

Phenomenal gig. We turned up with just enough time to grab a beer and find a spot in the crowd to stand before the opening riff. As the world tour for their new album I expected them to play more of the new stuff than they did (only 3 or 4 tracks) but I'm not going to complain about being treated to a 2 hour greatest hits set.

I think most people would always expect a 'greatest hits' set from a band like this. Aren't they nearly dead, yet?

Kasabian at o2 Academy Sheffield.

What can I say?  Amazing gig, they really do know how to engage with the crowd.  The only downside is I now realise that to truly enjoy the music you have to hear it live.  When I listen to the albums now it seems a little lifeless when compared to what I heard last night.

However, I mean this as a complement rather than a criticism.

I look forward to the arena tour, although I don't think it would be anywhere near as good as what they put on last night.
