Oh, and that's an old video, apparently, hence them using GH controllers. The song also isn't confirmed for the final build, but I expect they'll have some good'uns in there.

Gamestyle should form an online Rock Band band when this is out. Any suggestions on a name are welcome.

"Rhythm games are the new World war two shooters"? Too long. Band names need to make no sense, either. "Orangutan flicker" has a nice ring to it, though.

Now that's a good one. Sounds metal. We need some Glam rock names, now.

I'm doing the drums in any case.

I called my Guitar Hero 2 band "The Shag".

Oh, does anyone realise how big the box will be for this?

If I was ever a frontman of a band I would call it:

Andy Lee and the WonTons.

The debut album would be called:

WonTon Destruction.

No word on UK prices yet, but in the US, the 360 version is said to be as follows:

Rock Band Bundle - $199.99 (The Rock Band Bundle for the Xbox 360 includes the game, wireless guitar, drums and microphone)
Rock Band Game - $59.99
Rock Band Drum Set - $79.99
Rock Band Microphone - $29.99
Rock Band Wireless Fender Guitar Controller - $79.99

I heard the PS3 wireless guitar would be cheaper, probably because it's standard bluetooth. Oh, and the GH2 USB guitar will probably be compatible with the 360 version, however it won't support the second set of fret buttons, the purpose of which hasn't yet been identified (wankery, I'm guessing).

There will be separate bundles for each instrument, I'm sure. If you got just the game and the drums, get someone else with Guitar Hero to plug their controller in, and find a standard cheap USB microphone (I've got one from SingStar), that's not too bad for price. The full pack is quite expensive, though.

And for a GS band name: I vote for 'Sprite, etc.'

I bought Guitar Hero II yesterday on the 360. I'm alright at it, for my first hour playing. Vikki totally kicks my ass - but she loves rhythm-action games.

This, however, probably means I wont be purchasing Rock Band.

Ok, I'm blending RB and GH3 together here to save time.

After enjoying the original Guitar Hero I was generally pleased with the effort that went into the set list for the sequel but the currently announced tracks for both GH3 and Rock Band have blown me away. So many tunes I’d put on my wish list have turned up, with many of them as master tracks. Even better is that this can be no more than about half the total number of tracks and they’re bound to have kept a few killer names under wraps.

So what does everyone think of the lists so far? Any songs you can’t wait to play? Any song/band in particular you hope makes it into the game? Both lists distinctly lack in Megadeth in my opinion.

bold denotes master recording

Rock Band

"(Don't Fear) The Reaper" – Blue Φyster Cult

"Enter Sandman" – Metallica

"Go with the Flow" – Queens of the Stone Age

"In Bloom" – Nirvana

"Learn To Fly" – Foo Fighters

"Main Offender" – The Hives

"Mississippi Queen" – Mountain

"Paranoid" – Black Sabbath

"Reptilia" – The Strokes

"Rockaway Beach" – The Ramones

"Say It Ain't So" – Weezer

"Suffragette City" – David Bowie

"Tom Sawyer" – Rush

"Vasoline" – Stone Temple Pilots

"Wanted Dead or Alive" – Bon Jovi

"Won't Get Fooled Again" – The Who
- Yes! Oh my f*cking god, yes!

Guitar Hero 3

"3's and 7's" – Queens of the Stone Age

"Barracuda" – Heart

"Cherub Rock" – Smashing Pumpkins

"Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll" – Blue Φyster Cult

"Cult of Personality" – Living Colour

"Even Flow" – Pearl Jam

"Knights of Cydonia" – Muse

"La Grange" – ZZ Top

"Lay Down" – Priestess

"The Metal" – Tenacious D

"Miss Murder" – AFI

"Mississippi Queen" – Mountain

"My Name Is Jonas" – Weezer

"The Number of the Beast" - Iron Maiden

"One" – Metallica

"Paint It, Black" – The Rolling Stones

"Paranoid" – Black Sabbath

"Raining Blood" – Slayer

"Reptilia" – The Strokes

"Rock and Roll All Nite" – Kiss

"Rock You Like a Hurricane" – Scorpions

"Sabotage" – Beastie Boys

"School's Out" – Alice Cooper

"She Builds Quick Machines" – Velvet Revolver

"Slow Ride" – Foghat

"Suck My Kiss" - Red Hot Chili Peppers

"Through the Fire and Flames" - DragonForce
(this is a bonus track, not part of the career)

"Welcome to the Jungle" – Guns N' Roses

As far as band names go, I'm pretty unoriginal. On GH1 I went under the awesome name 'Stuart'

My GH2 band was 'Monty and the Moles'. Unfortunately when I got the 360 version we split up due to creative differences and I went on to form 'Spinal Tape'.

That's a very impressive selection already, for both games. As ever, it remains to be seen whether the well-known songs can work effectively in the game (I would have preferred Muse's Plug In Baby for guitarness). Rock Band will have an even harder task of making all the instruments fun individually.

More Megadeth is always good. You can also never have enough Maiden.
