Yeah. You control the gem board and fill up your power meters every time you get 3 or more of a colour in a row. With every move your opponents power meters fill up too and when a bar is full a power gem for that ability appers on the board. Your powers are activated by matching the gem, the enemy powers have a countdown with the power unleashed on you if you don't clear it from the board in time. There are a couple of other things to consider, such as gems getting locked on the board and boosts for matching the colour your character has an affinity with but that's pretty much it. There is a storyline (for which we can thank Squeenix) but its certainly no better than the pap we got from Puzzle Quest and without much in the way of humour either.
With this game I tend to suffer from the same thing I did with PQ as well. I can spend 20 minutes staring at the screen, picking out the perfect move, and with one twist I'll start a cascade of gems and power-ups which clears the screen and deals thousands of points of damage, only to realise the enemy only had about 4 HP left and would have been killed if I'd just fallen over and bumped into it.
