Such an entrance leaves Woody and pals clinging onto dear life in second slot. Red Dead Redemption continues to prove popular as in effect the top positions are all slotted down one, thanks to the arrival of that PC game. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels Starry Skies (try saying that in the morning) continues to plough an effective pursuit, moving up into seventh slot. It’s amazing to think that some people out there haven’t bought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but that must be the case as it continues to move up the chart. With the exception of that PC game, there are no new entries this week so it’s a forgettable top twenty with Sniper: Ghost Warrior now approaching relegation to the outer limits.
EA are unveiling all manner of weapons of mass destruction with the return of Medal of Honour, sorry we just cannot spell it the other way. The latest piece of kit to an increasingly formidable arsenal comes in the form of the Battlefield 3 Beta. Namely if you pick up the limited edition of MOH, then expect a Beta invite, which may be useful if you can tear yourself away from the horrible nature of war, for, well another piece of war.
Gamestyle can remember a time when limited editions were nowhere to be seen, however one that is worthy of the title comes in the form of Blazblue: Continuum Shift. Revealed this week by Zen United, the limited edition seems weighty enough with a huge art book and art cards, yet the ‘fan’s edition’ clocks in at just five hundred copies and is only available via the publisher. Sadly it’s now sold out, but for the lucky few expect a figurine and art print amongst other things. Such fantastic editions have been commonplace in Japan for years, so its welcome that Europeans are now receiving the same credit card hammering.
Another marketing ploy was revealed this week by Activision’s excellent Blur that has been out now for a wee while. For those that missed out initially or remain on the fence, the team have released a multiplayer demo via the PS3 PSN. An added incentive for those that download it is that you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win a BMW 125i!
2K Games confirmed another piece of downloadable content for BioShock 2 dubbed ‘Minerva’s Den’. “Minerva’s Den is a substantial addition that will give players more of what they’re looking for: more story, more narrative, more gameplay and more of Rapture,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “The core team has created an exciting product that further enhances the mystery and allure of the world of Rapture. Minerva’s Den will be a fitting conclusion to the BioShock 2 saga.” Players can expect to enter a previously unseen district of Rapture and the chance to explore the Central Computing facility.
The fierce battle between Guitar Hero and Rock Band continues, with Soundgarden’s new album arriving via Warriors of Rock. Whether or not the Seattle grunge merchants still ‘have it’ remains to be seen, of course Gamestyle saw ‘em first time around. “We’re extremely excited to be collaborating with Soundgarden on this monumental moment in their music career,” said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Guitar Hero. “Guitar Hero continues to break new ground by being the pre-eminent interactive platform for debuting original content and a stage for the biggest acts in all genres of rock and roll to reach new audiences in an all-new way.”
Get set for another Batman adventure with Warner Bros announcing Batman: Arkham City. Yep, it’s the follow up to Batman: Arkham Asylum that just about every man and his dog enjoyed. We’d love to post some screens but seeing how we only have a logo currently, it’s not worth it. Rocksteady Studios are handling development and expect to hang out in the latest maximum-security facility and get to know those lovely inmates.
And with that piece of good news we’re off to another show.
