GS Quick Look: Volume

Brad turns it up to ELEVEN for a quick look at Mike Bithell’s wonderful Volume.

If you only buy one stealth game this year make sure it is Volume. I mean seriously do that, vote with your wallets here people. Get this over Metal Gear Solid V, because in all honesty this shares more in common with the best bits of MGS anyway.

GS Quick Look – The Cat Machine (Steam)

CATS!!! Cats are either loving pets, or they are sneaky devious pests that control us more than we control them.

Brad & John look at another side of cats though, the ones that work tirelessly to keep the earth spinning to allow us to exist. Did you know that happens?

Well according to The Cat Machine from developers Cranktrain, that is exactly what happens, as you will find out in their new puzzle game.

Brad kinda likes what he is playing, while John isn’t quite as convinced, but check it out for yourself.

GS Plays: Turmoil (Steam) Early Access

Have you always wanted to be an oil baron? Dreamed of being alive in simpler times? Or even just watched the excellent There Will Be Blood?

Well, what you didn’t know, is that you really do want to play a simulation game about drilling for oil. Honestly you really do, especially one that is as well put together as Turmoil.

Despite this being a Quick Look for an Early Access game, I actually forgot that this wasn’t a completed title yet and still needs work, such is the quality of what we have access to now.

Turmoil is a simple, yet challenging take on the simulation games, that does away with realism to allow you to concentrate on the fun side of things at a pretty nice pace. Most of the on-screen parts are made up of lovely bright visual, but there is still plenty of graphs and stats for those who love that sort of thing.

GS Plays: You Must Build A Boat (Steam)

Puzzle games are wonderful aren’t they? But do you remember a time when they hadn’t had their soul ripped from them by Free to Play mechanics. Mechanics such as timed lives, pay to win boosts and the like?

Remember when the likes of Tetris, Columns, Puyo Pop, Puzzle Quest, Dr Mario, etc were just about the skill of it all? Remember how great it felt to get better scores, or progress because you were beating the game and not the game allowing you a small taste of success in the hopes of you spending more money to get that feeling again?

Well, You Must Build A Boat, the sequel to the fabulous 10000000 by EightyEight games does just that. Building on the base mechanics set out by the original to create a fine game that reminds you of those glory days of the puzzle game.

GS Plays: Super Indie Karts (Steam) Early Access

Remember Super Mario Kart on the SNES? Well, we do and Bradley still claims it is the best of the Mario Karts to date.

So when Super Indie Karts appeared on Steam Early access he could help but take it for a spin and what he found was the greatest homage to the Nintendo classic he has ever seen.

It is a game as Indie as it can get too, made by a single developer, featuring lots of cameos from Indie characters from other Indie games and it even has the word Indie in the title.

This is also a great example of the sort of game that should be on Early Access, something that is not quite ready yet, but it still showing lots of promise.

Anyway, check the video below!

GS Plays: Will Fight For Food: Super Actual Sellout: Game of the Hour (Steam)

Because it is the best thing about the game!

Maybe that is being a bit harsh, because the writing in Will Fight For Food: SAS: GotH is pretty good too and raises a few smiles. It is just a shame it is part of a game that just feels like it is lacking everywhere else.

Brad is joined by Steve as they take a look at the game and even Brad, the worlds most positive gamer can’t find much to cheer about.

GS Plays: Warlocks vs Shadows (Steam)

Brad is joined once again by Steve as the have a look at Oceanhorn… sorry, we mean Warlocks.

Both guys jump into Warlocks knowing absolutely nothing about the game they are about to play, but leave wanting to see more once it leaves Early Access.

There is a nice amount of humour and the game itself is pretty easy to play; doing what you want from an Early Access title, leaving you interested enough to go back later.

It was called Warlocks when we played it, but is now apparently called Warlocks vs Shadows. We may be wrong, but we don’t think we are.

It’s Adventure Time!

GS Plays: Carmageddon Reincarnation (Steam)

It’s a shame it gets ruined by the smell of rotting flesh from all the people that have been brutally murdered in a sick and twisted way for our pleasure!

This Gamestyle Plays is for Steam Early Access title Carmageddon: Reincarnation, which Steve thought he was quite good at until Stainless Games decided to make the AI more aggressive than a UKIP canvasser.

Enjoy his poor performance and completely noobish attempt at a let’s play! He’ll get better once he gets over his crippling affliction of saying “Erm” a lot. Promise.

GS Plays: Armello (Steam)

Well they decide to go all out war, that’s what!

Armello is a video game posing as a board game and unlike many others, it seems to be completely original and built from the ground up as a video game idea.

Bradley is joined by Matt as they take a look at Armello and try to figure out what in the hell is actually going on. The game is currently in Early Access on Steam and as the lads found out, it is one of the most polished Early Access games out there, but that doesn’t quite stop it from having a fair few issues.

GS Plays: Cities Skylines

Rather badly, so we had to start again. But then we were rocking and rolling!

Bradley invites Steve to check out new city building game Cities Skylines, but manages to ruin his early work by not understanding how roads are supposed to work. But these boys are professionals and manage to turn around the town’s fortunes… by quitting and starting from scratch!

This is all pretty much Bradley’s fault though and nothing to do with the game which is so well made, it is hard to believe it was done by such a small team and does the city building genre the justice it deserves after a few years of utter trash.

Cities Skylines is out in March 2015 for Steam

GS Plays: LA Cops

What ya gonna do, when they come for you!

LA Cops is set in the old days of 1970’s LA and shares a lot in common with the likes of Hotline Miami, Door Kickers, etc. but the setting and story is hoping to set it apart. All you need to know is that cop shows in the 70’s could take a lot more risks, which should allow LA Cops to pick up some cracking source material.
